A collaboration between light and art... Unique Light Boxes and Lamp Shades for your favourite space!

Two Layers of Cells, founded by Melbourne Artist Jane Crappsley is a collaboration between light and art. We create a unique range of limited edition lamp shades and light boxes made from recycled and re-purposed materials. Our Lightwrap® lamp shades feature original artwork and are only available in Limited Editions. The Draw-Your-Own Lightwrap® Kit is a great creative activity for children wanting to make their own lamp shade. We can also custom print our lamp shades for you with your own art or photos!

All our lamp shades, light boxes and other lighting products are designed and made in Melbourne using carefully selected Australian sourced materials wherever possible. We make our lamp shades from premium quality polymer which is 100% recyclable, highly durable, non-toxic, and easy to clean. We also choose locally sourced 100% recyclable packaging. If you are looking for something a little bit quirky, fun or different to add a bit of decorative lighting to your home or workplace you might just find it here. Designed and made in Melbourne all within 25km of our studio! Yay!

Your business name is a bit weird... where did it come from?

The label for our range of light boxes and lamps came from a little book found in an opp shop called 'Animals without Backbones: 1' by Ralph Buchsbaum (Reprint 1968). An introduction to the invertebrates, the book explores Amoebas, sponges, jellyfish, limpets, and many others. Chapter 7 explores organisms with 'Two Layers of Cells'. We like science. We like cells. Light and cells mean a lot to us. Hence the name.
